A rebuttal

Smackdown I was so happy to see this.

Rachel Maddow spoke with the Haitian ambassador to the U.S., and before he said anything else, he had to address the idiotic remarks made by Pat Robertson. For this poor man, who has seen the devastation and death in his country—he may have very well lost family members and friends—to have to hear those remarks disparaging his country, and to have to respond at a time when he is mourning the tragedy of his homeland, just infuriates me. His thoughts must surely be on his fellow Haitians as they struggle to survive, and to hear about how his ancestors brought this upon his country because they made a pact with the devil had to be humiliating and maddening. Watch as the Haitian ambassador delivers a righteous and mighty smackdown to Robertson (without even mentioning his name). It’s a beautiful thing.

I really hope that the people of Haiti do not believe that Robertson speaks for all Americans. He does not. Merely for a minority segment of slack-jawed drones who think that whatever he says is gospel. I hope the outpouring of help will convince them that most of us have decency and compassion. I realize that Robertson was asking for donations to help Haiti…but why did he have to throw that lunacy about a pact with the devil in there? It really is ridiculous and it is demeaning to an entire country and its people; no matter how much money he gets people to contribute, he should not have said it. It merely shows his ignorance and contempt for those who are not like his “godly” self.

Of course, that gasbag Limbaugh had to weigh in with his disgusting opinion that President Obama is taking advantage of this tragedy to get closer to the “light-skinned and dark-skinned black [communities] in this country.” He cites Rahm Emanuel’s quote about a crisis too good to pass up. To say that anything about this horrible tragedy is “good” is absolutely disgusting. It’s a pretty fucking stupid argument, too—I’d say that our President has plenty of support from both “light-skinned and dark-skinned” blacks in this country, and to suggest that he would exploit the death of thousands in Haiti (estimates are currently 45-50,000) in order to cull political favor is simply abominable.

If you listen to either of these fucktards, I hope you’ll reconsider. With such comments, they have shown their true colors; the masks have dropped, and we can all clearly see that they are the ones exploiting this tragedy, Robertson attempting to feed his particular brand of religious mania to anyone willing to listen and Limbocontin trying to further his anti-Obama crusade and his wish that our President will fail. I find both men abhorrent, and their behavior and words are heinous. Olbermann delivered a smackdown of his own, and said it better than I can.

Keeping the evil spirits away

Rabbit rabbit rabbit!

I forgot to do that yesterday. Gotta keep the evil spirits away from Nutwood at the start of each month! Someday, I'll see if I can find the origins of that. I learned it from the Bob & Tom Show, so that should tell you something! Although now that I think about it, it has been a few years since evil darkened our door! I guess it knows when it's not welcome.

Today is Sherry's birthday, so pop over and wish her a happy one. She's a sweetheart!

I don't know what it is this morning, but I feel wondrously refreshed...almost as if I had an extra hour of sleep! (wink)

Russ (Who was my 100th follower, by the way...wish I had a Kewpie doll for you, Russ!) left a comment about the movie "Hostel," in which he calls it "torture porn." I don't recall the first one being that extreme...I found it very creepy, at least situation-wise, and fairly scary. Last night, we started watching "Hostel II," although we didn't finish it before SNL came on. Oh my God, it's awful! There is one scene where I turned to Ken and said, "I wouldn't and couldn't recommend this to anyone." (Two words: Elizabeth Bathory.) We'll finish it tonight, but Tarentino jumped the shark on this one. It's not amusing, it's not suspenseful, it's really not all that scary...it's just sadistic. So I'm with you on this one, Russ.

Next up is "The Hills Have Eyes" (the remake), followed by "Hellraiser." We might have to watch a non-horror movie in there somewhere. I think it was Joann who asked if I'm brave enough to watch horror movies when Ken isn't here. Generally, no. Ha ha! It depends on the movie. If it's something campy (we recently watched "Fright Night"), or only mildly creepy (I picked up "Carrie" not too long ago), that's no problem, but some of these would definitely creep me out if I were by myself. Ken has a business trip coming up later this week, and I'm probably more likely to watch something like "Airplane!"

I remembered to soak the black beans last night in preparation for the black bean soup in the crock pot. I'll get that going later. I sure hope it turns out okay...this is an experiment!

Oh, SNL! Ben Affleck hosted, and the skit where he played Keith Olbermann was brilliant! We'll see if NBC lets me embed. Again, a little long, but I've been watching Olbermann lately, and Affleck gets his outrage down perfectly! I hope Miss Precious Perfect isn't too badly emotionally scarred.

No, it is not letting me embed, although it gives me an embed code. Darn you, NBC! (shaking fist) Okay, click here to see the clip.

"You couldn't write it, could you?"

First things first: Happy Birthday to Karen! Go over and wish her a good one!

Notre Dame and Pitt are tied up at 3 at the start of the second quarter. It's a home game, so Ken and I got to see the fighter jets (I think they're usually Navy jets out of Chicago) that do the flyovers at the stadium fly over our house! For those of you that live on base, it's probably old hat, but I find it an awesome sight and sound to have these jets fly over, and to hear their afterburners kick in. Wow!

Last night, we were watching Keith Olbermann's show. John Cleese was on, and I was so excited! As some of you may know, I love Monty Python, and it was great to see him. (I also love "A Fish Called Wanda." Michael Palin [no relation to that Alaska woman] is great in that. "Cathcart Towers Hotel!" Ha ha!) Those of you that are firmly in the McCain camp can skip this, because you won't like what is said. For the rest of you, it's a little long, but Cleese is always so funny. I just love how he completely cracks up over some of the things that have been going on in the campaign! How can you not? Oh, and if you want to find out what a "berk" is, look it up in the Urban Dictionary. My apologies to my readers from the U.K.--I know it's not a nice word, but sort of interesting that it can be used on U.S. television, isn't it? I actually learned this word the other day in my Yahoo group about The Godfathers, when it was used by one of the posters. It's always good to learn new vocabulary, isn't it?

More later! Here's the John Cleese interview.
