Buried alive!

Okay, it's not that bad, but as you can see by the handy dandy super double viper Doppler, there's a big white cloud sitting over our area. What's amazing to me about lake effect snow (that's when the wind blows across a relatively warm Lake Michigan, picking up all that moisture and converting it to snow) is that the bands can be so narrow. I've seen it dump a foot on New Carlisle, while South Bend stays fairly dry. (We're about 15 minutes apart.)

Ken took a picture this morning, and since I've been up, it's been snowing off and on. Looks like about 8 inches so far, and it's coming down again. I suspect we'll end up with about 10 inches, just like Aerosmith. (Those of you that get that reference get a gold star for the day.) When we went to bed a little after 11, there wasn't much out there, so I imagine that the morning commute was pretty awful. I'll turn on the noon news and see what they say about it.

I'm glad Ken was able to work from home today. He would have been fine in the truck, but it's always better to stay off the roads when it's like this. He's also been getting a lot of work done. He'll get out later and snowblow the driveway.

I promised Hollie a picture. Hollie, you can see Ken's picture at the link above, and here's a little video for you! I hope everyone is staying warm!

  3. Oh boy if my grandson woke up to that he would be in Heaven. It's very beautiful. I love to see acres of it and trees covered. People think I'm crazy but ice storms are the most beautiful everything looks like crystals. I can't wait until we get our first good snow.. me and grandbaby are ready to sled.
    Thanks for sharing.

  4. Sure is pretty. Looking out on the snow is much better than having to maneuver around on the roads.

    Stay warm and safe

  11. Hi Beth,
Oh, no ... it's too early to be getting 8 inches of snow. As far as I'm concerned, it's always too early for snow. I think you should pack up Nutwood and move it all out here to Santa Monica until this whole "Lake Effect" blows over.
    Best,
    Marty

  12. The snow is pretty...brings back memories of when I lived in Bloomington, IN. I always liked to see the first snowfall of the season...then no more. It got down to 53* here last nite & I was freezin my arse off!

  13. How beautiful! I'm always amazed to see snow! We rarely get cold enough for snow, and what we get is usually really just slush anyway! Thanks for the vid!

  15. We've got a base of 4" and added 5-8" depending on where those lake-effect bands blew through. ::shivers::

  16. It's been years since I've seen anything but snow flurries. I lived in Iowa for 15 yrs, and I loved the snow. Thats the one thing I miss. I live in Alabama now, and we hardly ever get any snow to speak of.

  17. I'm ashamed to say that I got the Arrowsmith reference... but I hate the snow! I don't miss it, I don't like it, I don't appreciate it, I don't WANT it! Tulsa just gets a little tiny bit every winter... thank goodness!
