May God have mercy upon my soul....

I've joined Facebook.

I have mixed feelings about it, because I really don't want to occupy my time with more computer crap, but Cousin Shane has been saying that I probably should, and he's found some people from his past through Facebook, so I took the plunge. Most of the people from my past that I wanted to find I've already found, so I hope I'm not opening up the floodgates.

I feel so ashamed. [sob] I tried to resist, I really did, but I just couldn't any longer. If only someone had told me, "You have to join Facebook!" I'm contrary enough that I probably would have said, "Oh no I don't!" (I have yet to see "Titanic" or read a single one of the Harry Potter books, because I had so many people tell me I "had" to.) But no...Shane just said I'd probably like it, and I read other bloggers saying that they'd joined...and before I knew it, I was wondering what I was missing out on.

I feel dirty. Like a used Kleenex or love glove.

I'm already liking it better than Myspace, though. It's much less cluttered and busy. I'm thinking that my Myspace account might be toast, French or otherwise.

In the name of all that is holy, what have I done?

What have I done?!

  2. I joined several months ago, and it's not as bad as you'd think. For me, the neat thing has been getting back in touch with all my daughter's old friends from h.s. and college. And they find me, rather than vice versa, which is pretty flattering. Of course, I feel like the "old lady" of Facebook, but I just lay low and try not to act too ancient. In reality, it's not that much different from the old Prodigy bulletin boards that I was so involved in about 20 years ago.

So, will U B my Facebook friend? LOL!

  3. Lot of my friends are there too, but I just don't like it very well because I like the idea of journaling. It is a whole different way of expressing yourself and for some it might be ok, but for me I'll take the path I've chosen. 'On Ya'-ma

  4. Not sure yet, I will let you get some run time. I am already part of LinkedIn, and Plaxo, so not sure if I want another "network".

  6. I have a FaceBook account but I've shut it down for now. It made me feel old and the youngsters annoyed me too much. Maybe I'll re-open my account and we can be friends. Of corse, I have to remember my password.

  15. Well, I don't pay EITHER My Space or Face book much attention, though I was encouraged to put some stuff on it.

Same-same with Harry Potter ... the MORE you tell me I have to do/see something ... the LESS likely I am to do or see it. Gets the contrarian in me going, because whenever I am walking with large crowds, I have to stop and look around to see if I am going where it is I WANT to go.

  16. I have been on facebook for months and HATE it....the layout SUCKS, i mean BLOWS!!! AWFUL.
    Yes, THAT bad.

but i have been found by three high school friends....one is gay! OMG, i thought he was the happiest married man of my class and he is gay. Still blows me away. Another chick found me and talks about all these things we did. I remember the places and times but for the life of me, i have no idea who the hell she is.
i have LOTS of J Land friends there too.
    So, enjoy!
    XO

  17. I use Linked In and Plaxo and they are very different from Facebook. For me the networks will never meet. :-) It's fun and I know you will like it. Way better than My Space.

  19. Hi Beth,
I agree -- best to pick either Facebook or Myspace. Both is overkill.
    Best,
