I like Bacon!

Today has been quite the shopping day for us.

I just ordered some stuff from Amazon. Shane told me last night that he heard the Dandy Warhols had a 2008 release, which I had not heard! *gasp* I checked it out, and sure enough, it's called "Earth to the Dandy Warhols." I also ordered the new AC/DC, "Black Ice," which I'm hearing is supposed to be a Walmart exclusive, but I found it through an independent dealer. I have a long standing policy of not buying CDs at Walmart, ever since I bought a Local H CD (the one with "High-Fiving MF" on it) there and it had been censored by Walmart. I was appalled. Don't you censor my music, Walmart! You aren't the boss of me! I also ordered the latest Repairman Jack novel by F. Paul Wilson. Repairman Jack is probably my favorite character in fiction right now--I'll write more about him when I finish the book.

Speaking of Walmart, that was our first stop today. Got a couple of things for dinner, and we always make a stop by their $5 movie bin. We found some great ones today! "Thinner" (from the Stephen King book), "Desperation" (ditto), "Bull Durham" (one of my favorite sports movies of all time), "Airplane!" ("Don't call me Shirley."), and another one (I'll tell you in a moment).

On the subject of sports movies, apparently when Sarah Palin was in Noblesville, Indiana (down by Indianapolis) yesterday, she told the crowd that her favorite movie is "Hoosiers." Not her favorite sports movie, not her favorite sports movie about basketball, not even her favorite movie set in Indiana (I'm not sure all that many are). Nope, she said that "Hoosiers" is her favorite movie.

My ass.

But I digress. (She's supposed to be on SNL tonight, by the way. I'm looking forward to it.)

After Walmart, we went to Lowe's and enjoyed a little home improvement shopping. It had been a while, and it was kind of fun! We got more insulation for the garage, which Ken is installing now, and a few odds and ends like new doorknobs for the bedroom doors (one broke).

So the fifth movie we got...we were digging through the bin, finding the aforementioned good ones, and Ken held one out to me and said, "Do you have this?" My reply was a gasp followed by, "Footloose!! NO!" "Footloose" is right up there with those other guilty pleasure movies of the 80's, "Dirty Dancing" and "Road House" ("Road House" is still tops for me, though.) Who can forget a young Kevin Bacon as the big city kid in a small town. A town that has banned dancing! O, the humanity! The warehouse scene where he is filled with teen angst and dances to shake off the oppression he feels from the people in the town is a classic. This is modern day cheese at its best!

I'm putting up the high school dance scene rather than the warehouse scene, because I think the high school dance is just like Kraft--it's the cheesiest! I won't put up the lyrics, because pretty much all you need to know is "Now I gotta cut loose, footloose, kick off your Sunday shoes." There's other nonsense like "Please, Louise, pull me offa my knees." You get the idea.

Oh my God, I can remember being at a wedding party when everyone formed two lines, and we went down the middle of the two lines, doing our little dance to this song. My ex-brother-in-law and I went down the middle doing that little kick-step dance, and we thought we were so cool and so good. Hahaha! It's on the verge of embarrassing to remember some of that, and some of the clothes we all wore, but it was all in fun and it was a good time back then. It sure makes me laugh to think back on it!

  1. OMG- pug-nosed little Kevin Bacon! Now it's a karaoke club staple! Every time you walk past the Cat's Meow on Bourbon Street that song is blaring out the windows and doors with someone howling it on stage!

  3. I will never shop at a Wal-Mart. The fact that they've taken it upon themselves to censor not only CD's, but books and magazines and who knows what else, proves to me that they are simply a meddlesome collection of busybodies with nothing better to do.

That and the fact that their parking lots are always packed with an inordinate amount of motor homes. I really don't understand that, but it frightens me. Are they mobilizing for something? Is there a revolution starting? Is it a coup?

  7. Now theres a guilty pleasure, watching Kevin Bacon move like he did in that movie...sigh...ok back to reality here. I'm trying to find the movie "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind"...that is THE movie that describes me and Paul perfectly. We decided that is going to be our anniversary movie to watch each year. My daughter works at Wal-Mart and I swear she is a walking billboard for that store (I'm pretty sure they brainwash you to work there)...so I tend to not shop there and do the Target thing instead. As for Lowe's...if I never step foot in a home improvement store for a good year, I couldn't be happier...sigh...that isn't happening I still need things to finish the bathroom. I've designated 2009 as the boycott year *winks*...

Now shopping, finally for me, no Pickles no anyone just me...and I'm actually looking forward to it tomorrow. Paul si babysitting. He wants a day off doing nothing, I want a day to myself...so it works wonderfully. Of course I'll probably boycott the Mall too after I'm finished.

So that's me caught up in a nutshell...oh, by the way loved the pictures of you. I was the first to comment on the slideshow Ken put up. Glad you enjoyed the concert hon, sounded like you had a blast. (Hugs)Indigo

  11. In 2002 I helped direct/produce a stage version of Footloose with a group of kids in community theatre. It was sooooo much fun! We had about 60 kids and they, of course, had no frame of reference for the music but they all loved it too... for me it was a daily trip in the waaaay back machine!

    Everybody cut, everybody cut...

    Ha!

  13. I love Footloose! When I was younger, I danced like a maniac to the title song, no matter where it was playing. I'd like to do that now but my knees keep saying, no way! Love the clip that you selected, of course, now I've thrown out my hip and ruined my knees from dancing around the room!

  15. Hells bells, I don't buy Cd's from Walmart, but did notice they had great movie deals. But wait to buy some out of the $5, because ours has a $4 one with some of the same movies in it?

We owned Footloose as kids, and we would act out the movie. My parents even did some of the scenes. I love John Lithgow, and Dianne Wiest. An overall good cast, and I love the overall message. I even shortened my Fisrt name to Ren, when I was younger. I always got stuck being Willard.

Before I go I must say 3rd Rock From the Sun Rules!

Have a good day, enjoy yourselves!

    Peace&Love

  17. yeah, if you want your full lyrics, Walmart is not the place to buy... but while my kids were pre-teens that is where I bought all their CD's and was GLAD for the censoring. LOL.. viewpoint is everything. ;)

  18. I'd like the Repairman Jack novels better if he set it AFTER the end of the world/last battle. He wrote his version of Jack's 'end times' trilogy decades ago, and yet the Jack novels keep mentioning it'in the future' and fearing what's to come . .dude, we know already! You win, quit your bit**ing!lol

    * * * * *

Nirvana changed In Uetero to confrom to WalMart's policies, changing 'Rape Me' to 'Waif Me' and altering the album cover. If it's done at the artists discretion it's just a business decision. They could always avoid WalMart and sell it elsewhere, but when deciding between an ethical stance and $ most artists will choose the wallet.

  19. Patrick Swayze was at his most studly in 'Road house' Why doesn't he get more credit for his run as an actor? I liked that and 'Point Break' as well ... which lead me into Keanu Reeves ...

I just don't like buying CD's at Walmart because I keep thinking they are crushing small towns. Besides, their store brand grocerice are crap (IMO)

Hope you have the best day!

  20. i have never met one female who did not LOVE Roadhouse and as they spoke of it, they swayed as they said Swayze's name. XO Gotta love a $5 80's classic. XO

  22. One of the sad things about being pretty rural "and" low-budget is the lack of shopping options. That's about our only local(20 miles away) choice. CD's get ordered online-Walmart, I already know ALL those words. You lose.
    I LOVE Amazon!
