I pulled the plug

At midnight, I went over to the previous incarnation of Nutwood Junction...you know, the one at AOL Journals. My last entry there was a repeat of a post in September that included the Semisonic song "Closing Time." I watched the video again (it is such a great song), then I went to Edit Journal and pulled the plug. It's probably silly, but I wanted to be the one to do it, rather than let AOL just shut the whole thing down.

It was surprisingly hard to do. I suspect many of my AOL friends felt the same way. It made me feel rather blue.

However, there is much yet to be written! There are paths yet to travel, ideas yet to explore, and friends yet to meet. Our community is relatively intact, and we can continue to enjoy each other's writings and friendship while possibly finding a few others at our new home who are simpatico.

If I had a glass of champagne in hand, I would raise it and say:

Love to one, friendship to many, and good will to all.

  2. Hi Beth,
How poignant ... now if only someone could be as humane where AOL is concerned. I suspect AOL is destined to be sold off as Time Warner finally "pulls the plug" on their ill-fated merger.
    Best,
    Marty

  5. Beth:

I pulled the plug a little while back, and felt like you! I'm thankful for the move to Bogger, and that we were able to bring past entries with us. It is nice to part of a cyber family, and to have discovered you. I'm proud to call you a friend, and appreciated what you have done for me and my spirit! I am thankful to know that there are good people like you and Ken out there in this crazy world!
So, I will raise a glass to Nutwood Junction, and the rest of the Cyber World!

    Friendship and Goodwill to you!

    Peace&Love
    Wes

  9. I don't know about all that going back ... in fact, I am going to write about THAT today, as this has inspired me to go in a different (slightly) direction ...

Loved that song. Even though I knew what it was about, it never made me think about leaving a party, you know?

  11. I did go back to the original posts on AOL and brought them over with no problem. It felt like going back to a childhood neighborhood, remembering how it looked then, but seeing it differently now.

  13. I thought it was ironic they didn't even wait till today was over (the last day they gave us). It was all suppose to be official on the 1st. Why am I not surprised they have already removed the journals, in one fell swoop. Sigh...

To love, friendship and good will. I can attest I brought the best of those with me over here. Thanks for continuing to join me on this journey dearest friend. (Hugs)Indy

  15. Amongst the many things about this situation that bothers me is that AOL journals never did come up with a solution for us to print out our journals. Ah well... at the rate they are going I suspect there will soon be no AOL at all... and I'm going to have to find a new e-mail service.

  16. Glad you did the proverbial toast, especially since they actually deleted at the crack of dawn versus at the end of the day. Hope not to many were caught by this.

  17. i have lost a surprising # of friends along the way here....many have walked away and i have not heard from them in weeks. I do not feel the same about journaling now. J Land was a special place for me. Blogger? Not so much.
I also deleted my last private blog on Thurs. I felt very upset at that time. What AOL did really sucks. XO

  18. I went over yesterday and found it already gone. It was all rather anticlimactic. ::sigh::
I will raise a glass(coffee cup) belatedly, and join you! To journaling!
